Why Organic Cotton vs. Conventional Cotton for Babies?

What you put on your baby is just as important as what you put in it.  Organic cotton contains no chemicals or poisons (synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides) so the fiber itself is hypoallergenic.  Growing cotton for one conventional t-shirt, uses approximately 1/3 pound of chemicals. In addition, more than half of the pesticides used on conventional cotton tees are classified as known cancer-causing chemicals.  That is one large issue, but other health concerns from conventional cotton are rashes and eczema on babies' sensitive skin, allergies, asthma, memory loss and emotional swings as the child gets older. 

Not only is organic cotton safer and softer for babies bodies, but it is also healthier for the environment.  A lot of the chemicals used to produce conventional cotton are also contaminating our soil and water, as well as hurting our wildlife.

***  In addition to using organic cotton for our apparel, we also dye the garments with low impact dyes, as well as print them with water-based ink.  Using low impact dyes and water-based ink ensures that there are even less chemicals on our little ones' clothing.  The ink will never crack or peel, and will actually become part of the creeper or lap tee versus the conventional screen printing method of using harmful PVC's (polyvinyl chlorides) that dries on top of the garment.

*** We also use recycled paper and soy inks for our hangtags, packaging and business cards.  We have a fabulous printer that calculates how much we are conserving in such things as trees, water and green house gases per each individual order we place (GreenerPrinter).   In addition, we attach the hang tag with hemp string onto our garments.

*** All our garments are tagless so the little one will never have to feel something itchy on the back of their neck :)
